Biographical Sketch
Growing up surrounded by art, Germaine
Gerie was infused with the desire to paint. At the young age of nine, she began her first
oil canvas. Her mother, also an artist, became her mentor and source of inspiration.
During Geries early years, art grew to be a need, not a hobby. Throughout school,
she passionately pursued art courses winning several awards. Since 1982, painting has been
a full-time profession.
Geries use of media ranges from oil and acrylic paints to watercolors and pastels.
She does not limit herself to canvas alone. She also paints murals, clothing, and
furniture. The theme of her artwork varies from wildlife, pets, landscapes, flowers, and
people to contemporary design. Her work is a joyful blend of color, sometimes delicate as
lace, sometimes spirited and bold as a tigers pounce but always expresses the beauty
that surrounds her.
A native of Long Island, New York, she received a Bachelors degree and teaching
certificate in art education from the State University of New York at New Paltz in 1981.
After teaching privately for a while, the demand for her art work became so great that she
devoted herself to it full time. Gerie exhibits her work throughout the U.S. Her paintings
are popular with numerous collectors and can be found in corporate collections including
the Nippon Club in Manhattan as well as in celebrities wardrobes. The late Gilda Radner
had a custom shirt designed by Gerie, and Drew Barrymore was photographed in People
Magazine sporting one of her Persian cat designs.
